Getting A Real Estate Listing Ready for Aerial Photography

You have decided to list your home or are a Realtor® whom is selling a home and it is time to take some photos to help sell the property. There can be a huge difference between a property selling or sitting there and being ignored or passed by due to the photos of the property on mls, real estate guides or websites. Here is a list of things you should do to the exterior of a home to make it ready for aerial photography (or regular photos as well).

  • Animals – Clean up after any pets. It is best to make it look like there are no pets at the home at all.
  • De-clutter – Remove any trash cans, water hoses, tools, toys etc.
  • Driveway & Walkways – Sweep leaves and yard clippings. Pressure wash if needed.
  • Exterior Lighting – If Twilight photos will be taken, replace any burnt out bulbs. Turn on all lights interior and exterior.
  • Grill – Uncover grill, clean exterior if needed and hide the cover.
  • Lawn – Neatly trimmed and manicured lawns always photograph better. If you have the ability, bag the trimmings and remove them from the property.
  • Pool – Remove security gate, clean pool, remove toys and vacuum.
  • Roof – If needed you should have the roof pressure-washed. Dirt and debris are very noticeable in aerial photos and video.
  • Umbrellas – Open patio umbrellas or awnings, make sure they are clean and not damaged.
  • Seasonal Decorations – Remove any decorations that can date the photograph.
  • Shrubs & Plants – Make sure shrubs are trimmed. Also check that plants aren’t dead and gardens are free of weeds.
  • Vehicles – Move any cars, boats, rv’s or other vehicles from the property. You should move any vehicles 2 or 3 houses away so they are not lined up in the photos (no one wants to see a bunch of cars in front of the neighbors house either).

While these things alone might not get your home sold they will go a long way to making sure the photos of your home are professional and appealing to prospective buyers. Check back soon for some tips on getting your homes interior ready for photos.
